CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – The Center for Lifestyle Management has scheduled smoking cessation classes each Wednesday in November from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Thomas & Claire Brodesser, Jr. Cancer Center conference room on the ground floor of Cape Regional Medical Center. The fee for the classes is $25, with a refund of $15 if you attend all of the classes.

“It is hard to try to quit smoking because nicotine is a very addictive drug.  It may take two or three tries before finally being able to quit, but it can be done,” reads a statement about the program.

The Smoking Cessation Program at Cape Regional Medical Center includes education about risk factors for smoking, nicotine replacement alternatives, lung function testing, stress management; dietary concerns regarding weight gain and relapse prevention.

For more information, or to sign up for the program, contact Bonnie Kratzer, RN, at the Center for Lifestyle Management at 463-4043.

Stop smoking classes to begin Nov. 1 - Lake County News

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lake Family Resource Center is once again offering the American Lung Association “Freedom from Smoking” tobacco cessation program beginning on Monday, Nov. 1.

“Freedom from Smoking,” the leading smoking cessation program in the United States for over 25 years, shows participants how to quit smoking for good in a supportive setting.

The classes are free to Lake County residents.

The classes will take place at the Sutter Lakeside Wellness Center, in the Healing House, 5176 Hill Road East. Classes will meet from 10 a.m. to noon.

Participants meet weekly with a small group of people so everyone attending gets personal attention.

No two smokers are alike, so the program helps everyone create their own quit plan.

Because support of others is important while quitting, being with a group who understands the challenges of quitting helps at a time when support is most needed.

You CAN be smoke free before Thanksgiving and the winter holidays. Millions of people have quit. You can, too. Lake Family Resource Center looks forward to helping you achieve your goals.

For more information, and to register for the classes call Joy Swetnam or Glenn Koeppel, Lake Family Resource Center, at 707-279-0563 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Pre-registration is not required – drop-ins are always welcome.

Salvation Army offers free stop smoking classes - Sheboygan Press

The Sheboygan Salvation Army is starting a new series of free classes to help low-income individuals stop smoking.

The series runs on Sept. 21, Sept. 28, Oct. 5, Oct. 7, Oct. 12, Oct. 19, and Oct. 26. They all begin at 1 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 710 Pennsylvania Ave.

Using the "Freedom from Smoking" model, trained instructors teach individuals who are interested in quitting smoking. The classes take a holistic approach toward smoking dependency. Attendees will learn about the hazards of smoking, be provided with group support, and offered smoking cessation products at no cost to the participants. The program is open to all persons without medical insurance or on medical assistance. It is not available to persons with private health insurance.

This project is made possible with funding from the Wisconsin Tobacco Prevention and Control Program through the Wisconsin Tobacco Prevention and Poverty Network, and it is part of The Salvation Army's ongoing effort to promote a healthy community.

"We are fortunate to be able to offer this program to anyone interested in being smoke free," said Pam Sandee, clinic coordinator of The Salvation Army Red Shield Free Clinic, in a press release.

For more information on the smoking cessation classes go to www.sasheboygan.org, call (920) 458-3723, Ext. 32, or visit The Salvation Army building.
